The Re-Energy program engages learners in grades 3-12 on the importance of renewable energy and explores the co-benefits and trade-offs of comparable energy systems. In this STEAM program, learners become renewable energy engineers by taking their learnings to the next level. Learners will use detailed construction plans to build working models of energy storage systems, solar ovens, solar cars, wind turbines, hydroelectric generators, and biogas generators and submit their project for a chance to win the Re-Energy Challenge. Learners are provided with relevant backgrounders to do an in-depth exploration of renewable energy technology. Further explore how students at a Calgary high school converted a 1975 Volkswagen Beetle, and how your students can build electric vehicle prototypes through GreenLearning’s Electrifying the Future program.

The Wormshop uses the indoor, appropriate vermiculture system as a vehicle to teach kids about composting and waste reduction. The students can also take what they learn in the Wormshop and apply it at home, creating their own wormbin composting system, regardless of whether they live in a house or an apartment.

Rethinking The Fashion System invites students to deepen their understanding of the fashion industry and its broader impacts on the environment and society. Learners will explore ideas of global citizenship, personal responsibility, leadership, collective action, and futures-thinking, consider the difference between the linear and circular economies, and become familiar with real-world examples of sustainability in action. Through the lens of The 7Rs – strategies to reduce waste and rethink fashion consumption – a wide range of culminating Action Projects support students to envision and create their own hope inspiring actions that promote responsible citizenship and a more sustainable future.

Zero Waste Place is an interactive program that includes 4 in-person or virtual workshops, teacher resources, and student-led projects to drive sustainable behaviour change in the classroom. Available across grades K-12, in French or English, this program engages students in Core and Curricular Competencies.

Supported and delivered within the City of Vancouver, this program is delivered in schools, community groups and other education settings.

This program is designed to inspire and prepare students to take action in their school, neighbourhoods and broader communities.

Waste in Our World offers children the chance to work cooperatively build a model landfill and use it to look at ways to divert waste and make our landfills safer for the environment. This is an inquiry-based opportunity that fully engages participants in hands-on learning and incorporates several cross-curricular competencies.

Get to Galiano Island easily with BC Ferries! We're a short 1-1.5 hour trip from the Tsawwassen ferry terminal in Vancouver or the Swartz Bay ferry terminal in Victoria. Our hands-on, nature-based programs have proudly been developed over 20+ years. Programs serve to introduce youth to nature in a fun, safe and meaningful way. EcoCooks Elementary consists of two modules and EcoCooks Secondary consists of four modules. Classes can take any number of modules, in any order.

Each EcoCooks module has four sessions and each session is about 60-70 min long. These four sessions are typically taken over the space of 1 to 4 weeks. The first three sessions tackle the environmental component with fun hands-on activities designed for a classroom space, while the last session is a cooking class where students learn how to apply their new knowledge while preparing food. This cooking session can be done in a traditional classroom space or in a specialized foods room.

Journey 2050 encourages students to explore environmental, social and economic sustainability while managing virtual farms in 3 different countries. Students spend the day learning about different topics in sustainability through a virtual farming simulation game, scavenger hunts, discussions on careers in agriculture, and more!

This one-day program takes place in the Nutrien Western Event Centre on Stampede Park in Calgary, Alberta. In-school guest speaker sessions are offered for Calgary and surrounding area.

We offer educational tours for the UBC Botanical Garden, Nitobe Memorial Garden, and the Greenheart TreeWalk. As part of the Faculty of Science, we strive to deliver ecology and environmental learning grounded in science and place-based learning. Sustainability is a key theme of our tours and we aim to raise awareness of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.  Our tours can be tailored to all age groups and knowledge levels and range from 1 to 2 hours in length. Located at UBC, we serve groups located in or visiting the Greater Vancouver Area. We offer our tours from Wednesday-Saturday between the hours of 10:00am and 4:30pm.

Program dates & focus areas are posted on our website seasonally. There are Spring, Summer, and Fall intakes. Most programs run for 10 sessions

Eligibility
Youth ages 14-18 who identify as Indigenous, Black, People of Colour, 2SLGBTQIA+, living with a disability, or from other equity-denied communities.

Supports
You will receive up to $20/day honorarium based on attendance and youth must attend a minimum of 4 program days to receive an honorarium. Lunch and bus tickets are provided. We also have some outdoor clothing available to borrow, including rain jackets and boots.

The SPEC School Gardens Program is a well established environmental education program (started in 2008) and is aligned with BC Curriculum. We offer in person grade specific curricular resources, personalized workshops and seasonal lessons. Our goal is to connect every one to nature and we often collaborate with ECE, K-12 schools, for profit and not for profit organizations to provide programming. We help K-12 schools or not for profits establish new gardens or improve existing ones with climate friendly and organic gardening practices.

Evans Lake has been operating as a camp and outdoor education facility since 1960. The Centre is located 15 kilometres North of Squamish, BC on a picturesque mountain lake. Surrounded by forest, the Centre offers a feeling of wilderness seclusion while featuring all your basic amenities, accommodations and full catering.

The Centre is also open year-round and available for school field trips, family events, weddings, corporate retreats and private bookings. Rentals over 41 people offer exclusive use of the facility including full catering, use of all activity equipment and accommodations for 120.

This online, self-paced, and interactive version of Sea Smart's Clean Water Champions Workshop will educate students about freshwater pollution, its impacts on the ocean, and what students can do to inspire sustainable action in schools and communities.

Through informative video lessons and engaging activities, students will learn about the importance of freshwater, and the main threats to freshwater globally, including eutrophication, toxic chemical pollution, and plastic pollution. Students will complete group Action Projects, working in teams to take action against water pollution and raise awareness about important threats to marine ecosystems.

This online course is best suited to Grades 6-9, and fulfills B.C. Core and Curricular Competencies. This course is available online nationwide and can be used in school classrooms, community/ youth groups, and other educational settings.
