The Sea Level Rise Case Study will guide students through the background, research, and presentation of a plan to adapt to sea level rise.

This resource includes a student workbook and teaching guide. The case study is designed by scientists and education staff from Ducks Unlimited Canada and includes questions to assist students in their research as well as resources to support their learning.

This program is designed for grades 7-12 and explores the complex relationship between violence directed at pets and people. The goal of this program is to foster empathy and instill a sense of responsibility towards all living beings, while also addressing the importance of animal welfare.

The program is a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes, which includes a 30-minute debrief and Q&A session to encourage discussion and reflection. Content is customized to the age group you select during registration.

Participants will learn how to recognize key signs of canine body language, understand common reasons for bites and practice respectful approaches to dogs. These skills will help build confidence and foster positive relationships.

The goals of this program are to:

Gain a better understanding of commonly misunderstood animal behaviours and challenge misconceptions that lead to injuries or fatalities.

Mitigate unnecessary risks to both animal companions and the community through greater education and awareness of animal welfare.

Empower youth and children to become more compassionate companions and better advocates for the animals in their homes and communities.

Our program serves students in grades 4-12 across British Columbia through interactive workshops and a four-week climate challenge. Elementary students (grades 4-7) participate in an engaging 60-minute workshop and complete 25 take-home actions with their families. High school students (grades 8-12) attend two advanced workshops over 4-6 weeks, exploring climate justice, systems analysis, and actionable solutions. Both programs empower students to reduce emissions and foster community impact. Workshops are delivered virtually or in person, with prizes and comprehensive resources provided.

Journey to Zero Waste takes students and teachers from across Canada on an intuitive and fun exploration to learn how to reduce waste at home, at school and in our communities!

EcoCooks Elementary consists of two modules and EcoCooks Secondary consists of four modules. Classes can take any number of modules, in any order.

Each EcoCooks module has four sessions and each session is about 60-70 min long. These four sessions are typically taken over the space of 1 to 4 weeks. The first three sessions tackle the environmental component with fun hands-on activities designed for a classroom space, while the last session is a cooking class where students learn how to apply their new knowledge while preparing food. This cooking session can be done in a traditional classroom space or in a specialized foods room.

We offer educational tours for the UBC Botanical Garden, Nitobe Memorial Garden, and the Greenheart TreeWalk. As part of the Faculty of Science, we strive to deliver ecology and environmental learning grounded in science and place-based learning. Sustainability is a key theme of our tours and we aim to raise awareness of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.  Our tours can be tailored to all age groups and knowledge levels and range from 1 to 2 hours in length. Located at UBC, we serve groups located in or visiting the Greater Vancouver Area. We offer our tours from Wednesday-Saturday between the hours of 10:00am and 4:30pm.

WILDNorth offers free, curriculum-specific presentations for Grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 in Edmonton thanks to Capital City Cleanup. There is a cost of $80 to book this presentation for schools outside of Edmonton.

Grade 3 – “Food Chains, Wildlife, & My Community”

This 45-minute presentation is designed to introduce Grade 3 students to the intricate relationships between animals, plants, and their environment. Students will learn about food chains, how energy moves through the environment, and explore a food web using examples of local wildlife and vegetation. Linked directly to the Living Systems unit, this program offers a fun and tangible way for students to learn how plants and animals interact with one another while developing an awareness and appreciation for backyard nature.

Grade 4 – “Litter, Wildlife, & My Community”

Since a clean community is a shared responsibility, WILDNorth and Capital City Clean Up have joined forces to deliver the “Litter, Wildlife & My Community” classroom program. Educational and entertaining, this 60-minute presentation directly links to the Waste and Our World unit. It illustrates how litter harms wildlife and helps students identify actions they can take to minimize litter’s impact on wildlife.

Grade 5 – “Body Systems, Wildlife, & My Community”

This 60-minute presentation is designed to introduce Grade 5 students to the fascinating world of animal anatomy, diving into the body systems that support survival in the wild. Students will explore how the digestive, respiratory, circulatory, and musculoskeletal systems function in different animals, including birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. This program offers an engaging way for students to understand the vital processes that allow animals to thrive in their environments while fostering a sense of responsibility for protecting local wildlife.

Grade 6 – “Ecosystems, Wildlife, & My Community”

This 60-minute presentation is designed to deepen Grade 6 students’ understanding of ecosystems, the complex interactions that sustain them, and the vital role wildlife plays within them. Students will investigate the characteristics and components of ecosystems, focusing on the intricate relationships between animals, plants, and their environment. This program offers an engaging exploration of local ecosystems, including forests, wetlands, and grasslands, while highlighting how Alberta’s wildlife are specially adapted to their habitats. The presentation also emphasizes the importance of protecting these ecosystems from threats like litter and pollution to ensure the survival and wellbeing of local wildlife.

In this experiential course, Grade 10-12 students will learn through site visits, hiking tours and guest speakers about everything that connects them to the environment. The 3-credit course is part of the Career and Technology Studies area of the Alberta curriculum. Students will learn about topics from human-wildlife coexistence, vegetation identification and waste water treatment to energy production, Îyethka traditional knowledge, Indigenous practices to care for the land and the Nakoda language.
