Situated at Vancouver Technical School (2600 E Broadway, Vancouver) and David Thompson Secondary School (1755 E 55th Ave, Vancouver), our farms are a short walk from many elementary schools and community centres. All field trips include a farm work experience, as well as a chance to harvest and taste veggies, when seasonally available. We require 1 teacher/chaperone for every 8 grade K-3 students and for every 10 grade 4-12 students.

In partnership with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), we are excited to deliver a hands-on program about freshwater pollution and how it connects to the ocean.

Sea Smart’s highly trained staff of marine biologists and environmental educators will visit your classroom to deliver three inquiry-based workshops. Your students will work in groups to create stewardship projects (i.e. projects to raise awareness and care for the environment) to engage their schools, and communities in diverting pollution from freshwater systems and the ocean.

Available for Grades 3-12, this program connects to Core and Curricular Competencies. Clean Water Champions can be taught across Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, this program can be delivered in schools, community/ youth groups, and other education settings.

Get to Galiano Island easily with BC Ferries! We're a short 1-1.5 hour trip from the Tsawwassen ferry terminal in Vancouver or the Swartz Bay ferry terminal in Victoria. Our hands-on, nature-based programs have proudly been developed over 20+ years. Programs serve to introduce youth to nature in a fun, safe and meaningful way. Our program space includes a native plant propagation greenhouse, medicine and food gardens, and a seven-acre forest with a forest classroom and a salmon stream. Field trips at Suwa’lkh focus on First People’s ways of knowing, helping students connect with Traditional Ecological Knowledge, in both cultivated and natural food lands. Suwa’lkh field trips are co-facilitated, whenever possible, with an Indigenous knowledge keeper and have been designed in consultation with Indigenous knowledge keeper Carrie Clark.

Sea Smart's shoreline clean-up will inspire students to learn about plastic pollution, marine animals, and ocean stewardship. These sessions are facilitated by Sea Smart’s highly experienced team of marine biologists and environmental educators, to deliver informative, hands-on learning. Sea Smart will provide sustainable equipment and protocols needed to ensure a safe cleanup.

We measure metrics such as the area of habitat cleaned, the weight of garbage removed, and the number of cigarette butts removed. These data allow you to share your student's efforts in a measurable and meaningful way. Participants will also join hands-on, educational activities to learn about plastic pollution, marine animals, and how we can help our ocean.

Available for Pre-K - Grade 12 Students, our Shoreline Cleanup Workshops connect with Core and Curricular Competencies. Shoreline Cleanups can be delivered throughout Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, with schools, community/ youth groups, and other educational settings.

Students use an open inquiry model to investigate processes taking place in aquatic, forest or winter ecosystems. They will be given an opportunity to explore a novel environment and develop and test a scientific question. They will explore local and current research and utilize scientific equipment to conduct an investigation from start to finish. Students will construct a question, conduct background research, revise their question, collect data, synthesize data and ultimately finish with a poster and/or paper outlining their research and conclusions. Our programs take place at the Barrier Lake Field Station, in Kananaskis Country, 80km west of Calgary, AB.

High school students (grades 8-12) attend two advanced workshops over 4-6 weeks, exploring climate justice, systems analysis, and actionable solutions. Both programs empower students to reduce emissions and foster community impact. Workshops are delivered virtually or in person, with prizes and comprehensive resources provided.

Flexible outdoor education programming available for kindergarten through grade 12 taking place in Weaselhead Park in SW Calgary. All students will learn about the Weaselhead Special Protected Area in Calgary while making Alberta curricular connections in science and social studies. All classes are guided through the park by our trained Naturalists with activities ranging from identifying tracks and signs to invertebrate pond dips, plant identification, removing invasive plants and conducting water quality and human impact studies. Each grade level has targeted learning outcomes and suggested activities but there is flexibility to focus on topics of interest to specific classes in the park. Kindergarten through grade 2 classes are typically scheduled for a half day (2 1/2 hours) from 9:30am-12pm while grade 3-12 can be either a half day or a full day (5 hours). Programs run from September-November and April-June.

Journey 2050 encourages students to explore environmental, social and economic sustainability while managing virtual farms in 3 different countries. Students spend the day learning about different topics in sustainability through a virtual farming simulation game, scavenger hunts, discussions on careers in agriculture, and more!

This one-day program takes place in the Nutrien Western Event Centre on Stampede Park in Calgary, Alberta. In-school guest speaker sessions are offered for Calgary and surrounding area.

Professional Development - Science World is proud to offer Professional Development workshops to help enrich your classroom teaching with STEAM experiences for grades K - 12. These workshops are offering in person and virtually.

Bursaries - Thanks to our Science of Cocktails event each year we are able to offer Bursaries to underfunded schools to visit Science World for free. Our bursaries for the 2024/2025 school year have already been awarded. Bursaries for the 2025/2026 school year will open in late August/early September 2025.

Future Science Leaders (FSL) - Our after school program, FSL is a 26-week long science enrichment program for teens to engage in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art & design and math) wit like-minded peers. Applications are now open until April 30th 2025.

Girls & STEAM - This program, offered through workshops and livestreams encourages participants ages 12-14 to pursue their scientific interests and explore protentional career fields by giving them access to STEAM opportunities

Journey to Zero Waste takes students and teachers from across Canada on an intuitive and fun exploration to learn how to reduce waste at home, at school and in our communities! 

Through a series of 3 interactive virtual or in-person (depending on location) workshops, students will learn how they can help reduce waste and protect the environment. We all play a role in reducing waste and can have a positive impact on the world around us!

Join us for an interactive experience that will motivate students to take impactful steps towards reducing waste. The tours include a classroom workshop and a guided bus tour through the landfill.

Grades: 4 - 7
Program length: 3 hours total (90-minute landfill bus tour/ 90-minute classroom).
Class size: Up to 2 classes (30 students per class) per day.

Cost: No cost for tours, but schools must provide and arrange bus transportation.
